Yesterday we were invited back again to display at the 5 Parishes show, a lovely community run show that we have been doing for many years now. We arrived in the morning to a reasonable north westerly wind which was a little gusty at times. Although a bit variable as the day went on it did settle down a bit and the sun came out which was brilliant as there was rain forecast for later in the afternoon, we just hoped that we might escape it.
Our allotted flying area was at the top of the field and the wind was in just the perfect direction for everyone to see our kites from the show below us.
With a lovely big area to work with we could get our large Manta Rays up high with a good stack of kites underneath. Jonny went for a cartoon theme with Tom & Jerry, the Pink Panther, Snoopy and Charlie Brown under his multicoloured Andreas Manta Ray. Jonathan went for a more Jungle themed stack with Pooh Bear, a Tiger and the 15m Leopard all held aloft by a Hot Stinger Manta Ray. Pete in between helping with the kite workshop managed to fly a few of his kites, his Martin Lester Diver, a guitar, a purple and white flowform and at one point his multi-coloured Manta Ray was given an airing which was nice to see. The stacks needed some watching as the gusts were a bit lively at times and sent the stacks moving all over the place. At 2.20pm we had to take all the kites down for the falconer to do his display. Just after we had taken them down there were the first few spots of the forecast rain. Would in hold off, unfortunately in didn’t and we were in for a few heavy showers which thankfully passed through. There was still just enough wind to get the wet kites reasonably dry in the late afternoon although they still needed to be completely dried out at home.
Lyn and Colin were busy all day in the kite workshop with 50 children colouring their little diamond kites and it was lovely to see them being flown in the field next to our display area. All in all, a very enjoyable day.
