Perfect!

We all teamed up to start digging in anchors, strategically placing them to allow the maximum number of lines in the enclosed arena and it wasn’t long before kites began to rise across the beach, and my goodness, we quickly knew that this was going to be a great show.

Anne & Andy started things off with their superb Air Banner, displaying the words ‘Aldeburgh 2025’ high up into the sky so the whole town could see it. Little did we know that photos of this would dominate the social feeds across the weekend, especially as the sun came out and the sky turned blue for the afternoon.

Dave Wadeson debuted his amazing self-designed and built ’Steve’ from Minecraft and we all marvelled at the achievement of sewing his body into square blocks, a notoriously difficult task. Steve flew superbly over the weekend and gave Dave & Hazel a good workout when it was time to bring him down. Dave also put up a nice line of JAC Cobra kites he had built from kits (finishing the last one the night before).

Andy & Anne bought along some fabulous kites from their large collection, with Terry the Maxi Turtle making a well-received appearance, together with their large shark & colourful Trilobite. Ernie set out his wonderful Polar Bears who wooed the crowds all day long, together with the elegant shoal of Koi crafted some years ago by his own fair hand.

Jonathan put up a nice line of Fauchi dragons and his maxi Poo Bear, Pete displayed some lovely streamers, and Colin wowed the crowd with a spot of expert Rev flying in between helping launch the kites. Finally, I added our now famous Maxi Whale, who was still lapping up the limelight following his appearance in a TV advert, together with some Octopi.

The kites behaved impeccably all day and amassed a lot of attention from the locals, carnival goers and passers-by. Lyn & Pete then kindly laid on an evening buffet for us, so we could reset a little before the night fly.

As dusk was beginning to set, we launched the illuminated kites, welcoming the good blow the wind was still giving us. Crowds lined the paths next to the beach as we began to light up the sky, and cars were stopping to watch. It looked an amazing sight, almost as if a group of alien craft were invading us.

Sunday dawned to a slightly calmer wind still running in a NE direction (almost perfect), and again it wasn’t long before the sky was again filled with colour, Purple Bears, and Pinocchio appeared in the far corner where Anne and Andy were stationed and Ernie again impressed the spectators, this time with his Dalek, Octopus and Orca’s. The Polar bears were still holding court on the boundary line, Steve was flying well again above our heads, and several lobsters, dolphins and whalesharks were appearing. Pete added his guitar and a super collection of seahorses.

Down at the far corner we were all excited to see Andy & Anne’s huge and fabulous Andreas Fischbacher clown fish make an appearance and the jelly fish, an inflatable car and numerous other kites completed the display as Steve kept an eye on all of us from above.

All too soon it was time to bring the kites down and pack up. With an enormous array out, it took quite a time and there were some very tired bones by the time it was done. The Aldeburgh pebbles kept reminding us how fit we needed to be,

We are very proud to have, once again, been part of the famous Aldeburgh Carnival and pass our gratitude on to Sally & Simon and the rest of the team Aldeburgh Olde Marine Regatta & Carnival for supporting us, and assisting us with safe trailer parking.

Thanks also to our sponsors Stay In Suffolk

Last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to our guest flyers De Sadeleer Family Kites, David Wadeson and Ernest Williamson.
