On arrival on Saturday morning the weather was beautiful with not a cloud in the sky and the sea was like a millpond. We wondered just how many kites we would get in the sky that day as the wind was a paltry 4-5mph south south easterly and we struggled to kept our flowform lifter in the sky. But by lunch time the wind had picked up to about 8-9mph and we had several flow tail trains in the sky plus 4 rokkaku kites and there was just enough wind to get one of the Seahorses in full flight. Lyn and Margaret were busy all day in the kite workshop and it was great to see the children flying there finished kites. We finished the day with a very successful couple of sweet drops which as always the kids enjoyed.

When we arrived on Sunday it looked very like it was going to be a repeat of the previous day. The weather was just as good as yesterday and initially there was little wind, however by 11.00am the wind had picked up to a steady 10-12mph east south easterly. We were joined this year by a group of Indian fighter kiters who had come up from London and it was great to see their kites flying high in the sky. With a steady wind we were able to get a good number of kites in the sky during the day. They included Colin and Roger’s two flow tail trains, Mark’s alien kite, several rokkaku kites, Larry the Lobster, 2 dragoon kites and various other line laundry. With these kites and all the other kites flown by the general public it all made for a lovely display. Lyn and Margaret were again busy with the kite workshop and gave prizes for the best decorated kites. We finished the afternoon with two sweet drops and only just managed the last one as the wind suddenly dropped. All in all a very enjoyable kite weekend for all concerned and many thanks to the staff of the Essex Wildlife trust who were again our excellent hosts for the weekend .

We were back again to the Naze Centre for what is turning out to be an annual event in our kiting calendar.
